Inspired by My Mama

Our moms will always be our first role models. We pick up a lot of things from them whether it was the way they dressed, the food they cooked, the music they listened to, or their favorite expressions. The same goes for the jewelry they wore.

With that being said, we asked third-generation jeweler, Samantha Dayrit, granddaughter of our founder, Milagros Salgado Dayrit, how she was influenced by her mom’s jewelry. Here is what she had to say.

My very first memory of fine jewelry was in my mom’s room. She had an exquisite jewelry box filled with necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings. She had a very particular taste that remains the same to this day. Her jewelry was big, bold, and mostly set in white gold. No matter what piece it was, they all had one thing in common. They had to have diamonds.

It was my mom that showed me the power of diamonds. She wore them all the time, everywhere she went. She was not afraid to match big earrings with a statement necklace and multiple diamond rings. She used them to express herself. She told me it made her feel more confident, more beautiful, and more empowered. And it showed.

Naturally, I fell in love with diamonds. I was in awe of how they shined so brilliantly. I was fascinated by the sparkle of colors that came out when it was exposed to light. Most of all, I believed in their ability to make the wearer feel magnificent. Because if there is anyone that is more powerful than my mom, it’s my mom in diamonds.

To this day, I never leave my house without my diamond stud earrings. I sometimes switch it up with hoops or short danglers, but diamond studs are my go-to. I have been wearing them since I was in grade school! This was my mom’s biggest influence on me in terms of jewelry. No matter where I go or what I do, I will always gravitate towards diamonds. More than making me feel confident, they remind me of my mom and all her wisdom, poise, courage, and strength.
